How to Surprise them on their Birthday

If you've been with your spouse for a couple of years now and are struggling for birthday gift ideas, you'll want to listen up. We've come up with a few suggestions that go beyond the typical gift. They will be so pleasantly surprised that they may even give you something in return!

Tell that special person you love, to go home to their family and friends, if you think they would enjoy that.

When is the last time they hopped a flight and went home to visit? If you really want to get to their heart buy them a plane ticket. Better yet, get them a gift card or ticket voucher for an airline so they can make the trip. Put it into a birthday card and tuck it into their underwear drawer for an extra little surprise.

You can also step outside of your comfort zone

Do something you might be less than thrilled about for that special someone you love. Have they been bugging you to attend a special event with them? Do they constantly drop hints about how "awesome" it would be to go somewhere or do something you normally wouldn't do? To make their special day extra special, tear down one of your personal barriers and take on an activity they always wanted to try. It shows them that you really care about their interests.

An honest cliche

I'm sure you have heard the quickest way to a person's heart is through their stomach - it's no lie. If they are working on their birthday, try whipping up their favorite lunchtime snack (for two) and bring a pseudo picnic to their office. It'll be a nice break in their busy work day and some extra one-on-one time for the two of you

If they've been obsessed with trying something, make it happen. Or if they're into bird watching, take him on an expert-led hike. No matter what their hobby is, do something to show that you appreciate every side of them. It'll remind them that you really do know them better than most people.

Get naughty

Try doing something intimate, sweet and sentimental that is very romantic. There's nothing like stepping out of the envelope to celebrate a special day. Turn your bedroom into a personal spa, complete with a hot bubble bath and scented oil. After a dip in the tub, take turns giving each other a long, intimate massages and see where the evening leads.

Take on his chores

Give your sweetie the day off by taking on his or her to-do list. Get their car washed, trim the bushes (or try to, at least), mow the lawn, do some laundry or even make dinner. No matter what they've got going on, do your best to chip in and let them focus on a day for themselves. After all, everyone needs a little personal time.

Throw a party

Invite their friends over for a night of fun (pick activities doing guy things). Set the poker table, whip up a night's worth of snacks, and have them arrive 30 minutes before your spouse is scheduled to get there. Once you've done the whole "surprise" thing, wait on them and their friends. They will appreciate the night with they're friends and the fact that you are willing to serve them.
