In an attempt to take off extra weight, many people turn to over-the- counter diet pills. Diet pills are not regulated by the FDA and have been known to be dangerous and harmful. In addition to physical addictions if taking a diet pill leads to weight loss, you can also become psychologically addicted to the success of the pills.


Avoid taking diet pills. The best way to avoid addiction to diet pills is to not take them at all. Studies have found that diet pills can be very harmful to your health. Doctors agree that the best way to loose to weight is through exercise and a sensible diet.


Read the label and follow the directions carefully if you do take diet pills. Never take more than the recommended dosage. In an effort to loose weight quickly, some dieters take more pills than the package recommends. This is very harmful and will lead to addiction.


Limit the length of time you stay on the diet pills. The longer you take diet pills the more likely you will have an addiction problem.


Tell your family doctor you are taking diet pills. You should never take an over-the-counter medication on an ongoing basis without letting your doctor know that you are taking it. Diet pills might not interact well with prescription medications you are taking, leading to a greater chance of addiction.


Seek professional counseling if you develop an addiction to diet pills. Like all addictions, you will probably need help to break it.
